Why is 'Kit' such a hard name for people to understand?

I swear, every time I have to tell people my name I spend 5 minutes having to explain it, spell it out, sound it out. "No not Kip k-i-"T", Not Kitch "KIT" No NOT KITH "KIT" T like 'medical *Kit*, like the fucking knightrider Car............"Bob?"....how the fuck did you hear Bob [yes from a Honda dealer]' What the hell!? there's only 3 letters, it can't be that hard.

Norse Mythology

  • Jul. 23rd, 2008 at 3:42 PM
Does anyone have good info on old Norse Mythology, especially art and depictions?

Preferably proper depictions, the stuff I'm finding all looks like Boris Vallejo work from the 70's & 80's.

16. Being a Green Mother by Piers Anthony

I'd go into much more detail about how I cannot decide if the first book about Death or this one is my favorite and how I am surprised Piers Anthony is still alive and writing including releasing an eighth Incarnations of Immortality book last December. I'd probably even mention how I am now even more unsure [info]manwhoreforhire has the next book about Satan, which I am especially keen to read after this last book.

But I am entirely too depressed about WoW and my guild so I'll leave it at that.

Argh Mac Thunderbird tech help

  • Jul. 20th, 2008 at 8:16 AM
My thunderbird email decided it doesn't want to open now. It just says

"The application Thunderbird quit unexpectedly: Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."

And won't start ever...

I've been trying to hunt for the problem on forums but nothing I find works or makes sense.

Tried downloading a whole new separate thunderbird application and that one won't open either.

Error report it tries to send.

As we draw closer to that special time of year where we reflect on things we've said and done...I'd like to sincerely send out my apologies to all of those people to whom I expressed doubt that I would be getting a call, text, email, or IM regarding a certain situation at a certain game we all know and are bored at. I was absolutely wrong, and you were absolutely right...or is it the other way around?

Starbucks closures heaviest in California, Florida, Texas

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - California, Florida and Texas, the U.S. states with the most Starbucks Corp stores, will see the most shuttered as the coffee chain axes more than 600 underperforming outlets in the coming year.

Starbucks is closing 88 locations in California, a loss of 5 percent based on store counts as of the end of March.

According to a list of store closures released on Thursday, Florida will lose 59 stores, or nearly 14 percent of overall outlets, while the coffee seller's move to shutter 57 Texas locations will lower store counts there by 11 percent.

The company, which expanded so aggressively that it is not uncommon to have two stores within view of each other, previously said 70 percent of the targeted stores were opened since its fiscal year that started October 2005 and that many were in close proximity to another outlet.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz had said that company's move into up-and-coming real estate markets had hurt the company as rising foreclosures left customers with less money to spend.

California, Florida and Nevada, where 18 stores will be shut, are among the states with the highest rates of foreclosure.

"Texas is probably overstored," independent restaurant consultant Dean Haskell said.

But it's not just the slumping markets that are losing stores.

Manhattan, where the company's green and white signs dot the landscape, is losing a handful of stores. California's upscale Laguna Beach is losing its store in the famed Pacific Coast Highway and San Francisco is losing two downtown stores.

(will have to fix my dot in area lore spec Starbucks)

midnight movie

  • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 9:58 AM
We saw one of four sold-out midnight showings of The Dark Knight last night and didn't go to asleep until some time close to 4am.

It's been so long since I've gone to a midnight opening (Episode III I think). It was totally worth it. Awesome Movie!!

*sleepy now*

vehicle hunting.

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 4:31 PM
Still hunting for insurance and cars.

I still think I may go with the PT Cruiser.... it's been going around and around. Every car that's the right size is just out of my price range, and every other car is just too damn small, both for back storage and headroom for me.

Plus Chrysler is offering lifetime warranties on the engines and transmissions. I don't know how honest they are about this, but having had a long history of engine failure and transmissions falling apart, that's quite an appeal.

Keyhole buttonholes

Keyhole buttonholes.

So where in LA would you go to get keyhole buttonholes put into a garment?
In NYC there are embroidery and button places where I can get it done, but I don't know how to get things like that done in LA.

belated birthday weekend post

  • Jul. 17th, 2008 at 11:28 AM
The first part of July always seems to fly by for me every year. I get so focused on my birthday on the 7th, life seems to just rush by those first 15 days of the month before I realize it.

For my birthday weekend, [info]manwhoreforhire took me to a swanky resort near Monterey. The place we stayed was a surprise to me until the day before we left, and we entered the weekend with a multitude of things we wanted to do. Sheer logic cut down the number of things we managed to accomplish though.

the details )

So we had big plans for the weekend (lots of driving and visiting places) but instead, we stayed close to where we were and relaxed, which was just what we needed. Thanks to everyone for their food recommendations. I am now tempted to try a day trip to Santa Cruz just to try out some of those places. You can find trip pictures here if you are interested (if I can continue to be good about using my camera, I can think of upgrading for a quicker, cleared camera).

A belated thank you all for your birthday wishes. Now back to life with its raiding guild drama and midnight showings of Batman (hopefully!).

15. Wielding a Red Sword by Piers Anthony

So far, this has been my least favorite novel of the series. It's less intriguing and more straight-forward then the other novels. I like the intrigue and mystery in the other books.

Now I have to find book 5 Being a Green Mother.
